I think this place was a good place for me I didn't know I can learn so much. It was so interesting to meet people that had the same problems as me I thought all the staff was friendly and helpful.

Baker's Place's amongst other things, is an exceptional in-patient, Dual Diagnosis model of substance abuse treatment. Eight year's ago, I was a client resident at the Baker St., Queen Ann mansion near Haight St in SF for three months. The Staff was a group of well educated (Master's Degree) young and motivated around the clock professionals. I felt very safe, taken care of, well fed, part of a family, and free enough to come and go daily. The treatment structure and content is on par and not overwhelming including relapse prevention, AA meetings out, shared cooking, light household duties, and customized treatment plans. Most importantly, I got a sense that everyone was there to accomodate and support myself and peers to succeed in sobriety and realize set personal goals, in this self-esteem boosting program. There is a Psychiatrist in house daily available if needed. This program is not gender specific and not a TC (Therapeutic Community), nor does it adhere to any sort of rigid Behavioral Modification tactics. There is a more compassionate approach applied here, one that I welcomed. In fact, I actually relished my short term here like a relaxing stress free vacation. I counted the days to 90 in dread to have to leave, seriously. Baker Place's also has a Co-OP sober living extended housing program that is fantastic. You have to be proactive to get a spot. For a sliding scale nominal cost I shared a very nice flat with a few peers for about a year in the Excelsior District. What a great program. If you suffer from mental illness and want to get your life stabilized and sober- liveable, this is perhaps one of the best programs of its kind in Northern California. I highly recommend all of the services offered here.
